WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO:
Ahmahr Nahr Basenji Stud is located in Los Lunas, New Mexico, on a small farm. It is a New Mexico corporation which is owned by Jennie Behles and Robert Walley. Ahmahr Nahr breeds basenjis, as well as provides advice to show fancy on international showing on such matters as titling of dogs under the Canadian Kennel Club system, Federation Cynalogique International (FCI) and its member countries which include some of our nearest neighbors, Federacion Canofila Mexicana as well as most of the countries in Europe, Puerto Rico, and the Orient. We have access, if necessary, to the services of the law firm in which one of its owners, Jennie Behles, is an attorney.
Ahmahr Nahr also provides consulting services in regard to canine behavior problems and kennel club rule issues (including Basenji and other breeds).
Walley, an avid golfer, has been a dog lover all of his life and has owned Doberman Pinchers and Poodles prior to researching and acquiring his first basenji.
Behles was raised with Cocker Spaniels, Pugs, English Bull dogs,
Irish Setters, and worked with her grandfather in his Greyhound
kennel. At various times Behles has owned or exhibited all of those
breeds together with Pugs, Schnauzers and Dachshunds.
After substantial research to find the perfect dog, Behles and Walley chose the Basenji and have been committed to them ever since. Ahmahr Nahr provides stud services to the Basenji family both with live breeding and frozen or chilled semen. Our Basenjis all have in house time as well as an excellent kennel facility and their own guard dog, a Dogo Argentina named “Hoss” Cartwright.
Ahmahr Nahr’s owes its start to Astarte Basenjis. Ahmahr Nahr is built on that line. The primary emphasis of Ahmahr Nahr in breeding is that of health and excellent performance. Ahmahr Nahr’s owners are members of the Basenji Club of America, the Canadian Kennel Club as well as the Basenji Club of Canada and ascribe to the BCOA Code of Ethics. Behles is a licensed attorney practicing in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Walley is a business man in that city, Canine Law and Litgator.

Jennie Behles, the breeder, through her law firm, The Behles
Law Firm, P.C., consults with many members of the dog community
locally and around the world in conjunction with local counsel in
regard to problems with the AKC, the CKC, and the contractual
problems between breeders, breeders and purchasers, owners,
and handlers, etc. It is an incredible asset to be able to seek legal
representation with a law firm familiar with the canine show and
performance community.
This knowledge connection speeds resolution of problems and can
provide measures to make sure that problems do not arise.

New Ventures
In addition, we have been able
this year, health concerns having stabilized, to go back to
performance judging in lure coursing events that we greatly enjoy.
We will be publishing BIF wins we were honored to judge here
from time to time .
Finally, after many years of not having this opportunity, we were able to attend and graduate from the Conformation Dog Show Judges Associations and American ACEF Basic Conformation Judge’s School, a week long course and examinations in Las Vegas, NV in the fall of 2008. This gives us the opportunity to give back to the dog community, hopefully we will share in making those “improvements” in areas that we all often complain about and don’t get the opportunity to improve.
