The African Line

Ahmahr Nahr’s African line was started with the acquisition of Ch. Dharian Breka’s Kmau Shakara JC. Shakara has championships from CKC, FCM and FCI and won the Manitoba Gaze Hound speciality Best Pup in her first year of showing. She is quite a coursing hound and has tracking abilities. However, her staring roll is as a mom. She loves puppies and relishes her role as a mother.

Shakara has produced three fine litters – Ch Ahmahr Nahr’s Turquoise Warrior, who appears on this website, is one of her boys in whom Ahmahr Nahr has retained a co-ownership. Shakara has in the past been bred to Ch. Astarte’s Sindar, also shown here. Sindar has his CKC, FCM FCI and FCPR titles and during the 2002 year was a Top Ranked basenji in Canada. In fact, he achieved group placements in approximately 25% of his Canadian starts. Later, Shakara, sometimes known as the “African Princess”, who rules Ahmahr Nahr as her kingdom, was bred to D.CH Astarte’s Sultan Siete with Pips SC.

From this breeding, Ahmahr Nahr retained a yearling for performance work, particularly in lure coursing, F.Ch.Ahmahr Nahr’s Running with Spirits SC. Spirit vacationed in Florida and worked on his titles.Read more about his exciting 2004 season elsewhere on this site. Shakara was thrilled to have a litter of puppies in the house this year, though she was disappointed it was not hers. She is, however, working on performance titles preparing for at least one more litter in her career. Shakara is a one-half African who has shown and placed well at BCOA African stock exhibitions.. In 2004 Shakara became a grandma . Her boy "Turk" sired a litter referenced in the "Puppies" section of this site.

Shakara was bred to Ranger for her third litter.  We first attempted this in the 2005 year and were unsuccessful.  We were told Shakara was “too old” and Ranger had “low fertility”.  Never to be undone and figuring they would enjoy it anyway, we attempted this breeding again in 2006 and were successful.  This litter produced three fine red and white puppies - two girls and a boy.  We have retained an honorary co-ownership in the male so that we will have breeding rites in what may be one of the last of our African direct-line descendants.  The puppy will be owned, loved and showed by Rose Marie Holt in Washington and Idaho.  She also owns Angel, who is the daughter of Turquoise Warrior.
